Stamping is a metal working process that can include punching and forming operations. Progressive stamping feeds a strip of metal off a coil and carries it through numerous stations. With each stroke a completed part is cutoff from the coil. With proper tooling and setup it is possible to run well over 500 parts a minute.
Stamping is ideal for a product with a repeat high volume. The tooling costs can sometimes be extensive but for the right type of part stamping can be very cost effective. From a quality view stamping creates a very consistent part due to the use of hard tooling. Metal stamping loses in flexibility and tooling costs but it gains in speed and repeatability.
